May I quote from page 8 of the LC9s manual, " Slide Hold Open allows the slide to be locked to the rear to positively view the cartridge chamber. The hold open is spring loaded downward so it is released by pulling the slide slightly rearward." Sounds like you are doing it right.That inclued pullig the slide back and engaging the hold. After I was done looking around inside, I pulled the slide back to release the hold and it did not retract. Just now as I sit down to write this, I popped the magazine out, tried it, and the slide retracted back home. What's the theory behind this? Thanks! P.S. It may be that the grip frame had some malformation that that kept the slide lock from engaging. As said above, you need to pull the trigger and release the half cocked firing pin before being able to slide the slide off. If it's a PRO model just pull the trigger. If it's the NON-PRO model it should have come with an orange "dummy mag" that needs to be inserted before being able to pull the trigger.
