Picked up my 2006 F-150 STX 4x4 on Friday from the local Ford Service Center. IWE solenoid replacement cost me $207. Solenoid was $57. Looks like they installed a part (6L3Z-9H465-B) that doesn't have the so-called "water-cap" across the top. Ive been a member on the forum for some time now and Ive read and l at first i thought it was a hissing sound from the engine bay, come to find out, it was a really really light grinding sound under the truck. supposedly the front hubs were trying to engage into 4wd while being in 2wd due to a crappy vacuum. thats how i found out it was the IWE solenoid. in 2wd it holds the hubs out of locking into 4wd until you activate the selector switch. then releases.In addition, i needed a new IWE.
