I do want to work with my local Ducati dealership to make a video covering maintenance service costs and parts ordering, as I already need a few small things I broke at Moab by crashing. As for major reliability/running costs, I think these modern bikes are a lot more reliable and service intervals are lessened, as they are part of Audi/VAG Group. As shown by Ducati's own Gran turismo V4 engine. So why are they still using such a overly complex design the requires more labor intensive maintenance? And the Ducati's do seem to require more work to gain access to Normal Maintrnace items like the Air filter, Spark plug, Oil/Filter, and in Ducati's case the Belt.

Utter dominance in many of those years. If you're serious with this post, you are missing out on one of the best motorcycles Ducati has produced in terms of tech, comfort, ease of riding and thrills. I'm saying that with 26 years of Ducati ownership. The SFV4 is an exceptional bike. Shame you won't get to experience itMonster is more for lots of street and maybe once a year track day. In an ideal world I’d want both. Monster is more comfy for sure (at least on 848/1098, haven’t got to sit on a V2 streetfighter), but streetfighter is a lot better body position for real track days, if you do them semi regularly. The Ducati would probably be a better distance bike. The Sportster S is pretty lacking in suspension travel. You'll want more than an inch of travel for any long distance. Bike for bike, I'd personally go Sportster S... but I really like Harley's and would go HD over Ducati just about any day of the week. However, I don't see forwards with drag ... ….

Ducati reliability improved greatly after the Audi/VW purchase. As BeNice said, it isn't Honda reliability if that is what you are looking for in a bike. Side note: starting on a small bike isn't just about rider maturity. New riders make mistakes and HP compounds mistakes. The least reliable part of the motorcycle is it's rider. Maintenance is key in the lifespan of any bike, yadiyadi blah blah blah. Of course there are always some motorcycles on which the value engineer had his finger to far up the butt of the product-owner. This can result in some premature failure.

The Italian bikes need to be serviced more frequently and at a higher cost. Period. Non negotiable. They make more power, but cost more money. It's maintenance where you will need to inspect and adjust the engine valves every few thousand miles. From what I read, it's not a cheap service to do unless you are comfortable to do them yourself. Both have more power than you can legally use anyways lol. The V4 is certainly smoother than the twin the Diavel has. Personally, I like the raw, visceral feeling of the twins better. Both have a nice host of electronics, Ducati safety pack, etc. Looks are all about preference, I like the naked SF better.
