42 posts · Joined 2011. #3 · Jul 18, 2012. I think the wad you have is an SP20 instead of RXP20. The RXP20 shot cup depth is 7/8" with smooth petals and the SP20 is 1" with stitched petals and ribs. In the Federal hull I would try the fed 20S1 or clone to stop powder migration unless you shoot them right away.Especially when there's plenty of small producers selling a wad that will suit the needs of hunters, such as Gualandi. The SG20 Mid should get you in at less than 1.5" and if you have a really bulky powder, there are several wads in the 1.3xx" range from other producers. Target shooters don't like 1 oz in a 20 gauge.

We also load a 7/8 oz with Longshot using CB and Orange Duster wads. Federal Hull VS Cheddite. So, I've been looking and working on coming up with a 20g, 3", Bismuth load, utilizing Longshot Powder and Cheddite hulls. So far I seem to have come up fairly empty with that combination. Lots of stuff for Lil Gun, which Hodgdon will tell you isn't even really meant for 20g loads. Some on here have said that same thing.Stripers is telling you that the SP20 wad is TYPICALLY used for 1 ounce loads in Remington cases with MOST powders. Lymans is telling you that there might be a particular powder and hull combo where some of those other wads MIGHT work for 1 ounce. Running low on wads and as much as I like the RXP20's I think it's time to move on. They are hard to find and Remington seems to be awfully proud of their product. The wad I've settled on for my 20 ga hunting loads is Ballistic Products TC20. I load 22 grains of Longshot, BPI's TC20 wad and 1oz of #5 Nickle plated shot. Cheddite 209 primer and Cheddite hull.10,300psi and 1325fps.
